Nice work! I like that you used red for contrast on the Mach-5--works very well indeed. I also like the little touches like the textured grass and the skids on the track--it's a little touch, but adds a lot. I liked the linework, but the colours kick this into a whole new level of awesome. :) Well done!

Not really based on those. I just tried to use a tranformation that would have the robot mode compliment the car mode as much as possible. Actually, after looking at it for a while, I realized how much it resembles a Macross Valkyrie's Battloid mode. Kinda keeping with the Tatsunoko theme.

...but to be honest, that wasn't intended either. =p
